Designed to be in Relationship

A colleague at work commented to me that over the past six months, she has had more ‘strangers’ make small talk or comment on something that normally would pass without conversation.  I was just at the dentist and ended up having a deep and meaningful conversation with the hygienist for an hour during the cleaning (which isn’t easy due to the nature of the procedure).  At work, I have colleagues stopping in for some honest and raw conversations that would have been unheard of two years ago.  I had a phone call from a family member that rarely ever does more than text which was like balm to my soul.

I think it is safe to say most of us are feeling some level of disconnection lately.  Did Jesus design us to be in relationship though?  In connection with Him and others? Does God live in community, not alone or isolated, but in a perfect triune relationship as the Trinity?  Yes!  God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit live as one yet separate.  We, as God’s people, look to model our lives after the example of the Holy Trinity.  We are individual but called to be a part of a holy community.  God’s family.  We find this in the Church:  being a part of God’s holy family, reflecting on Holy Scripture, celebrating Mass and participation in the sacraments which bring us into communion with God and each other.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. (2 Cor. 13:14)
