Jesus, the Light of the World

Jesus, the Light of the World

Jesus, the Light of the World…

Advent gave us an opportunity to journey from darkness to light as we lit our Advent candles each week. The heavenly host of angels poured light into the dark winter sky as they sang songs of praise and promise. The wise men followed the starlight until it came to rest majestically over the stable in Bethlehem. The message seems clear – follow the light and you will find Jesus.

We have each celebrated the birth of Jesus in our own unique way. The challenge is how to continue to celebrate the peace, humility and simplicity that Jesus offers. The darkness continues in our cold Alberta winter. So how do we embrace the darkness in the light Jesus brings?

I am a candle person. The flame that flickers and dances allows me an opportunity to sit in darkness and share in the silent language of God. No words are necessary.

St. Teresa of Calcutta was asked, “When you pray, what do you say to God?” She answered, “I don’t say anything. I listen.”

Then she was asked, “What does God say to you?” She answered, “God doesn’t say anything. God listens to my soul.

Thomas Merton shared, “In the silent, dark emptiness God can fill you with Himself.” Light

Perhaps our long, dark, cold winter is an invitation to light a candle and allow the glowing flame to touch the dark, cold places in our heart

BREATH In. — I light a candle
BREATH Out — to remember
BREATH In — all is sacred
BREATH Out — here and now.

May you invite THE LORD JESUS TO WALK WITH YOU on your 2022 sacred journey!
