New Beginnings

New Beginnings

The theme, “a new beginning” is especially appropriate for me as I have witnessed the arrival of a new grandson. It always amazes me how a new birth ushers in a sense of wonder in the awesome love of our God.  Everyone is touched in a different way – from the pain of childbirth, to the helpless feeling of the dad, the tears of joy from the grandparents and family, the sniffing of the family pet, to the three year old sister kissing the tiny fingers of her new brother.

New beginnings are offered to us every minute, hour, day, month, year and season. New beginnings are an opportunity to reflect and see with new eyes the promises of God; an opportunity to begin again.  We can review the positive and negatives of our past – those areas where we want to continue and build or areas where we want to bury and leave behind.  New beginnings give us hope as we walk in our present day situations with the Lord’s hand in ours and new beginnings offer us faith and grace to face our future.

The new life of our grandson changes all the lives of our little family community. This innocent, vulnerable baby calls all of us to a new beginning in a life of service, patience and compassion with each other. As I gaze at the beauty and perfection of creation in the form of my grandson, my heart is flooded with unconditional love and gratitude.  I am reminded of the unconditional love God has for me and all that has been created.  God’s love is so great that he sent Jesus, his Son who arrived as an innocent, vulnerable baby and invited all of us into a life of new dreams and hopes.

Isaiah 43:19 – “Behold, I am doing a new thing.”
