Be Still

Be Still

Ah!   Finally the sun is shining. . .  as if it never stopped.
I sit in my rocking chair, thanking God for this gift from our daughter: outside his ‘n’ hers rocking chairs attached to a small table in the middle.  Best gift!  It’s been out here through all the seasons just sitting and waiting for me to come and enjoy it! My husband is out here so often even through less pleasant weather; as for me, it has to be perfect outside.  And what do I call perfect?
Warm but not too hot.  I am so demanding!
“Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 40:10)
Ah! The heat on my face and arms, I close my eyes and let myself drift away . . . to the sound of my neighbors voice as she talks on her cell phone, the cars driving on some road (near or far), Oh the warmth of that sun, caressing my skin.  My God how wonderful this sun that You have created!
The sun and a slight breeze brings out the smells of the day;  freshness of a recent rain; newly turned dirt in the garden; the clean air of the mountains; the aroma of spruce trees in the forest.  I open my eyes to make sure I’m still on the deck and I see the huge branch sway gently in the breeze.  You are reaching out to show Your love, reassuring me with a wave.  There is so much beauty in all of it!  Only You can give us such gifts!
Thank You that I can and do appreciate it.
“Be still and know that I am God”
Now, to return to my day inside and to carry this gift of sun, of ‘Son’ back with me and let it warm my day.
My God how great You are!
